Retailers across America have been announcing that they will be hiring thousands of seasonal workers for the holiday season this year, just in time for a wave of new labor regulations. On December 1, 2016, updates to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will raise the minimum salary threshold required to qualify for exemption from the Fair Labor Standards Act’s to $50,440 per year from the current $23,660. While this change will likely not affect these temporary employees, other state and local legislation influencing worker schedules and on-call shifts just might.
So how could all these changes affect your business? And what can you do to prepare? JDA stands ready to help retailers and related industries get ready. We recently published Retail Imperative: Transforming to Thrive in the New Labor Reality, a guide that will provide valuable information and resources to help you stay compliant with changing regulations.
